The card collecting hobby has been exponentially growing since its inception. Most collectors in the hobby seek the high-value cards to collect. Base cards or cards with minimal monetary value are often thrown out or discarded. As the saying goes, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. At Card Heroes, we know children treasure receiving sports cards no matter the monetary value. A Tom Brady card worth $1 may be priceless to a child who considers him a hero.
As a card collector, I have opened countless card boxes throughout the years. With only a few cards having value, most of the cards were placed in a shoe box or thrown in the trash, never to be seen again. The idea for Card Heroes arose from a Facebook post. I posted asking if any parents had children that may be interested in receiving sports cards, and if so, to send me their address. Within 2 days, I received over 20 requests. After shipping the cards, I started receiving messages from the parents. Their kids loved them. Cards that I valued for less than $1 provided immense joy to kids that may never have had the privilege of opening or receiving a box of cards. To kids, professional or collegiate athletes are heroes that they strive to be when they grow up. In hospitals, many kids cling to the hope that they will have the chance to grow up. Kids experience pain, boredom, anxiety, and more in the hospital setting. If the cards we provide at Card Heroes can provide joy, make a positive difference, and help relieve the pain, boredom, and anxiety, even if for only a moment, that is worth it.
Thank you for all of your donations, and let’s make a difference together.
